I started Love Squared in 2013 after my daughter was born. I had a hard time finding locally
made baby headbands and decided to try making my own. I posted a photo of my daughter in her
headband I made and it took off from there! I actually taught myself how to sew and design all the
beanies! Over the years my business has evolved and we now offer a wide variety of designed & handmade
goods locally, including beanies, toques, scrunchies, headbands, apparel, and more!
In 2020, I outgrew my space at home and needed somewhere that could grow with the business. We
now have a studio space in downtown Whitby, where you can pick up online orders as well as shop the
store.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband and I are proud parents to our two beautiful daughters
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
For me, I get the most joy seeing the connection made between making a product and seeing it on consumers. I love hearing stories about how my products have brought joy or helped people. For example, how our beanies have been a saving grace for children with hearing aids who wouldn’t stop touching their devices, or how our beanies have been a source of comfort for cancer patients receiving treatment.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
The Brock House and KB are always a favourite, and just down the street from my shop!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I grew up in Thornhill and moved to Ajax in 2011. We moved to Whitby in 2015 after our second daughter was born and have loved living here ever since!
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
So hard to choose just one person, as there are a lot of local business owners I admire. But if I had to choose just one it would be Nella from Unique Town Boutique, she is so smart and business savvy and we really hit it off!
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
My dream has always been to go back to East Africa, a place my parents are from and somewhere I haven’t been since I was a teen. As a family, I would love to vacation in Greece.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I don’t really watch a lot of TV, but when I do, my number one go to is always documentaries. I also really love listening to true crime podcasts.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Find something you are passionate about and go for it!
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Travelling the world and having the financial freedom to do so.
Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
I am obsessed with Sickick. He is a local Toronto DJ/artist. I just love everything he creates. He has always worn a mask, so nobody really knows who he is or what he looks like!
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
There is a lady in the states @egreis.gjergjani that I have followed for years on IG who is an amazing business woman I would love to sit down with her and pick her brain. I think I would take her to KB down the street from our studio.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Still doing some sort of business, whether that be starting a new one or taking this one to the next level.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m a serial entrepreneur. I’ve had a side hustle almost my entire adult life. From making jewelry to being a freelance makeup artist to blogger to podcaster I’ve done a lot and love it all!
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
Fav Month is a toss between November and January. Favourite holiday is Christmas, its so magical and I didn’t grow up celebrating it so I love seeing my kids enjoy. Best single day perhaps my birthday Jan 16th because every year I get older I become more comfortable with who I am and get to celebrate another year of accomplishments, health and life!
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My kids, I want to provide a great life for them. Also my father, he is an incredible business man who I look up to and admire all he’s built.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Safe, loving and a side of chaos!
