What High School do you attend?
I graduated from Donald A Wilson Secondary School in 2016 where I was a recipient of Chris Pyke’s Williamsburg Community Award for my involvement in the community. I then went on to study at the University of Guelph where I graduated in 2020 with my Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Applied Human Nutrition. I was able to get involved in the Guelph community by volunteering for an elementary school snack program and at a local food pantry. This year I graduated from Brescia University College (University of Western Ontario) after completing the Diploma in Dietetic Education and Practical Training.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have a younger sister, Megan, who is completing her nursing degree at Ontario Tech University and a younger brother, Matthew, who is graduating from Donald A Wilson this year and is planning to go off to university this fall. We live with our parents, Michael and Michelle, and our dog, Arlo, in our childhood home in Whitby. My grandparents, Gill and Flemming, live in Ajax. I feel very lucky getting to live near them and have many fond memories visiting them by the lake. Although there have been so many challenges this past year because of the pandemic, I’m grateful for the extra time I’ve been able to spend with them at home.

What are your plans after graduation?
I currently have my temporary Registered Dietitian license and have just finished writing my national exam to obtain my full license. My next plans are to start applying to jobs in the coming weeks. After completing my practical training program, there are so many areas of dietetics that I am interested in working in. I would love to work in a hospital or a community care centre as a clinical dietitian helping to care and support people’s nutrition needs and goals. I really enjoy working with the pediatric population and hope I am able to build a career working with infants/children and their families to support their growth and development. I also am passionate about working with those with gastrointestinal (GI) diseases and disorders.

What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
The Villa and Tuscan Wolf.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to travel Europe as it is somewhere I have always wanted to visit. The top places in Europe I would want to travel to would be Greece, Denmark, England, Italy, and Ireland. My grandparents are from England and Denmark so it has always been a dream to go and visit the place where they grew up.

What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favourite movie is ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ and my favourite TV show is ‘The Office’.

If you were asked to give advice to your senior class and the younger students at your school, what would you say?
My advice would be to enjoy every moment that the coming years have to offer. It’s hard for me to believe how fast my high school and university years flew by. I have made so many memories with lifelong friends and have made many meaningful connections with teachers, professors, and peers. Although these years can be stressful and will challenge you in many ways, I wouldn’t trade any of those hard times for the world because of all the wonderful memories I made along the way. I would also say to always look for opportunities to learn more and get involved, you never know where those experiences and connections will take you.

If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
I would love to be cast in Grey’s Anatomy as the shows first dietitian.

If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
I would have lunch with my great-grandma, who we called Little G. She passed away before I was able to graduate high school or go off to university so I would love to see her again – I would have a million questions about life to ask her! I would take her to The Balmoral in Ajax for fish and chips because she loved those so much.

What is your favorite thing about our community?
The people and their ability to come together to overcome these hard times.

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I hope to see myself happy with my family and friends, healthy, and successful in my career as a Registered Dietitian.

What is something on your bucket list?
To go snorkelling.

What is your go to band / singer when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Coldplay and Taylor Swift are my go to artists!

Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
I love summer time so I would say July is my favourite month of the year. My favourite holiday is Christmas. The best single day on the calendar is May 13th because it’s my anniversary with my boyfriend, Jordan.

What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Cheesecake and cookie dough ice cream are always a 10 out of 10!

What is something you want to do as soon as this pandemic is finished?
I want to travel with my friends when the pandemic is over to celebrate finishing school and getting my degrees.

Who inspires you to be better?
My sister inspires me daily to be better and to push through any challenges thrown my way. She has gone through many challenges and has come out the other side as such a strong person. I look up to her very much.
