Cindy A Cole

Hi! I’m Cindy!
I have lived in Brooklin my entire life. I even bought my childhood home so I’ve never moved! I grew up here when there were only two subdivisions, no buses and there was farm land as far as the eye could see. Boy! Things have changed.
I work full time as an insurance broker and I volunteer my time with Whitby Caremongers, but in truth, I’ll help WHOever WHENever I can.
I have been known to drop off random gifts to peoples’ doors just to let them know they’re in my thoughts. I love my family and my friends. I feel pretty blessed. And I am truly honoured to be included in this initiative.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am a single mom to my two fantastic teenage sons. And I’m Mauntie to my four BIG KIDS as I call them, who range in age from 32-36 now, who have all lived with me at some point between 2000-2021.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am currently a commercial insurance broker. I provide Professional Liability policies to alternative health practitioners. And I also handle an Event Insurance platform. I love it but someday, I would love to work with a charitable organization assisting animals or the elderly.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I am HUGE fan of the Curry Stuffed Yorkshire at the Piper Arms in Brooklin! So delicious! I also love Harvest on a date night/girls night. The ambiance there is just beautiful on their patio!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived in Brooklin for 45 years, or my whole life! (I know. I don’t look that old)

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Niki Lundquist! She’s such an inspiration for me. She’s a brilliant lawyer. She’s the reason I became involved in Caremongers (she started it). She pulls no punches and says exactly what she means. And she’s a hero!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
It’s summer in Ontario! It’s the only time to NOT want to travel.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Favourite movie would have to be 10 Things I hate about you. Loved Heath Ledger. And TV show right now would be really hard since I’m fairly sure I just finished Netflix. New Amsterdam is great though.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Be kind. Always try to look at things from someone else’s perspective. You don’t know their struggles.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I would love to go on Safari in Africa and stay at the Giraffe Manor in Kenya!!!

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
Oh..tough one. I love Hedley, but also, can’t go wrong with Zac Brown Band or Old Dominion.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Joe’s pizza! I miss it so much!

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Any person who was alive during historical events. I love to hear peoples’ stories.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I adore the Brooklin Spring Fair. I competed in the Brooklin Spring Fair Ambassador pageant twice as a teen. As a child, I can still remember laying in bed and listening to the midway and the tractor pulls. So many memories!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Hopefully watching one or both of my son’s graduating from school, and doing what they love.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I have many little quirks. But top of the list is….I burn grilled cheese sandwiches. All the time. My kids are so disappointed in me.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
I went to Austria on a student exchange when I was 16. The whole trip was breathtaking.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
Favourite month is June. And any holiday or day I get to spend with all my kids, Big and Small, is the best day.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Ryan Reynolds’ sarcastic humour is perfect.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
Every person I meet inspires something new. Whether it’s their kindness, their need, or their words. Everyone is an inspiration.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
I love vanilla and lilacs!

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Love, Community, Family
