Lauren Greenfield

My name is Lauren Greenfield and I have the privilege of living and working in the Williamsburg community. I spend most of my time these days being a mom and a teacher and I’m passionate about both roles. I love people, especially those at a younger age when they’re figuring things out. I feel lucky to raise my daughters in such a welcoming and diverse neighbourhood. As a family, we love travelling to different parts of Ontario to go camping. We also love music – there’s always someone singing or playing the piano or guitar around our house.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I’ve been married for 14 years (to my high school sweetheart) and we have 2 daughters, ages 9 and 6. There’s never a dull moment around here!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I’ve been teaching math at Donald A. Wilson since 2007. There are so many things I love about teaching, but the greatest is watching students become successful at something they didn’t think they could do. I also have amazing colleagues that make it fun to come into work each day.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
KB and The Lake Grill.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve lived in Whitby since 2010 and have been teaching at Wilson since 2007.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
This community is so diverse so I’m always meeting interesting people.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I’d actually love to see more of Canada and go to the East Coast.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I LOVE James Bond!

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Show grace to others. You might not realize what they’re going through.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To ride in a hot air balloon!

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
The Slackers.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
It would be interesting to pick the mind of an author like George R.R. Martin. I’ve always found it amazing how someone could create an entire fantasy world in their head. Hot Rocks would be a perfect place to meet for lunch!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The diversity! It’s humbling to meet people with ties to all different parts of the world.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Right here!

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m passionate about social justice.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
The Caribbean! All that sun and ocean.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
It’s cliché but I love Christmas! Family, food, fun…yes, even the music.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Deluxe pizza. Thin crust, fresh ingredients, well done!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My students and my own kids. They teach me something new each day.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Sounds silly but I love the smell of our camper when we open it in the spring!

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Home is wherever my family is. I think of laughter, acceptance and comfort.
